Theatre Royal WakefieldOn Saturday, 6th October, Wakefield Civic Society will welcome representatives from civic societies across the region when it hosts the autumn meeting of the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies (YHACS). YHACS meetings are held quarterly in different towns and cities and provide a networking opportunity for members from nearly 40 societies in Yorkshire and Humber.

The October meeting will be held at the new Centre for Creativity at Theatre Royal Wakefield, starting at 1pm. The meeting is open to members of any civic or amenity society that is a member of YHACS and anyone representing a society that is thinking about becoming a member of YHACS.

Guest speakers will include Ben Davis, talking about the work of the Yorkshire Society and his 490-mile run around the Yorkshire border in August 2018. Also speaking will be Sarah Cobham, Director of Dream Time Creative about how she teamed up with Wakefield Civic Society to work towards ‘blue plaque parity’ for women – increasing the number of blue plaques in the city dedicated to the lives of women to bring it into line with the number erected to men. There will also be an opportunity to hear Fran Smith and Kate Watson from Beam talk about the value of public art in place making and how civic societies might go about commissioning art or working with others to do so.
