Wakefield Civic Society
an organisation dedicated to making Wakefield a better place in which to live, work or relax.
Design Awards
The Society began its presitgious Design Awards scheme in 1966 and continued to make awards to meritworthy building and environmental schemes every two years until 2008 after which it became an annual awards scheme.
We now make awards over five categories each year:
1. Best new development (building or environmental)
2. Best refurbishment (building or environmental)
3. Best shop front
4. Best public house, café bar or restaurant frontage
5. Best new residential development (6 or more apartments or houses)
Nominations can be submitted at any time by anyone for properties that are stituated within the city of Wakefield or surrounding villages (please note that we do not include the towns around Wakefield, such as Horbury, Ossett, Pontefract, etc). Nominations are usually sought for projects completed within a 12-month period ending on 31st December after which our judging panel meets to consider the nominations received for the year. Results are then announced at our AGM in the March following.
