Special screening of new film about The Wakefield Shirt Company and Double Two shirts

Wakefield Civic Society has produced a short film about The Wakefield Shirt Company, makers of Double Two shirts, with the help of current and former employees.

Entitled “The Wakefield Shirt Company – An Oral History” the film explores the history of the iconic Wakefield Shirt Company, Double Two, it’s buildings, the people who worked in them, and the impact it has had on the Industrial Heritage of the city of Wakefield.

The film features the voices of ten volunteer oral historians, who take us back to the start of the company nearly 80 years ago in Kirkgate, and bring us right up to the present date.

It will be shown, free of charge, in Room 3 of Wakefield Town Hall on Sunday 20th May, as part of the “With Banners Held High" and Collective Spirit Festival.

The film, which lasts approximately 35 minutes, will be shown at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

All are welcome (subject to capacity) and there is no need to book.
