Danny is a student at Cleveland College of Art and Design in Hartlepool studying photography. Although he’s now living in Hartlepool, he grew up and lived in Wakefield his whole life.
As Danny says “My interest in photography began as a hobby, but over the years I've realised that I've actually being using photography as a tool. Documenting various aspects and places of my life from my own perspective and how I remember them, in order to be able to step back and see what I can discover and learn about myself as an individual. In doing so, I've found that both self-portraiture and landscape photography have had the most impact.
“For this exhibition, my aim has been to consider the landscape of Wakefield and how it directly relates to both my identity and where my future lies as an individual. On the surface, this body of work displays a visual record of places in Wakefield that hold a certain memory. My experience of Wakefield is however far more complex, and I have come to realise that this landscape has become an almost tangible but essentially a very real part of my identity."
Join us to meet Danny and see his work any time between 5 and 9 pm on Wednesday evening, 30th September. You can find us on the ground floor of the Wakefield Media Centre at 19 King Street, Wakefield, WF1 2SQ. Until then, you can see a selection of Danny's work on YouTube here.
