For Heritage Open Days this year, the Society has organised two special events as follows:
Saturday, 12th September, 2 pm: The Development of Thornes Park. Join members of the Friends of CHaT Parks and Wakefield Civic Society for a walking tour of the latest projects and developments being undertaken by the Friends group to improve the parkland and its amenities.
Meet at the Thornes Road car park adjacent to the Stork Café for a 2 pm start. No booking is required.
Sunday, 13th September, 12.30 pm for 1 pm start: Free Wakefield Civic Society Guided Walk
Learn about Wakefield’s history as told through its buildings by joining Wakefield Civic Society’s guided walk around the city centre.
Meet from 12.30 pm to 1.00 pm at the Society’s office at the Wakefield Media Centre, Ground Floor, 19 King Street, Wakefield, WF1 2SQ, where there will be an opportunity to view a photographic exhibition by Wakefield resident Daniel Day, currently a student photographer from the Cleveland College of Art and Design in Hartlepool. Tea and coffee will be available in the office before the walk.
At 1.00 pm, there will be a short talk on Wakefield’s history and its architecture before setting off on the walk at approximately 1.30 pm for the walk. The walk will finish no later than 4 pm.
