A Taste of Honey - Special Film Screening as part of Wakefield Lit Fest

Join us at Unity Works at 7.30 Monday evening, 21st September, for a special screening of this 1960s classic, BAFTA award-winning, black and white film.  

Following on from our previous screenings of Kes (filmed in and around Barnsley), This Sporting Life (Wakefield), we move over the Pennines for our latest film. Set in Salford, A Taste of Honey explores attitudes towards class, race, gender and sexuality against a backdrop of an industrial north.

Released in 1961, the film stars Dora Bryan, Rita Tushingam and Murray Melvyn. It is based on the play by Shelagh Delaney and directed by Tony Richardson. Tushingham and Melvyn went on to receive Best Actress and Actor awards at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival for their performances.

Tickets, which cost just £6 (£4 concessions for unwaged/retired/students), can be ordered through the Society using our booking form  or on line through the Lit Fest website. They can also be purchased in person from Unity Works

All Wakefield Civic Society members booking their tickets directly with us using the booking form can purchase tickets at £4.

Tickets will not be allocated to seat numbers.

The Unity Works café bar will be open prior to the screening.

Please note that the film is rated PG (parental guidance).
