Wakefield - A Developing City - Talk

Join us at the Orangery for the latest talk in our current programme. Starting at 7.30 pm (doors will be open from 7.00 pm onwards), we'll be hearing from Sarah Pearson, Wakefield Council's Service Director for Economic Growth and Strategic Housing, who will bring us up to date on the latest developments in Wakefield.

You cannot fail to have noticed the changes that have occurred around the city centre over the last five years or so. With new developments such as Trinity Walk, Wakefield One, The Hepworth Wakefield, Merchant Gate, and now a new Westgate Station, the city has undergone some remarkable changes. On top of this, there have been some major public realm improvements to areas such as the Bull Ring, Rishworth Street and now The Springs that are all intended to refresh the appearance of Wakefield to make it more attractive to local residents, businesses and visitors to the city.

However, the new developments we have seen so far are only part of a much bigger programme of works that are in the pipeline to help regenerate the city economically and socially and our talk will give an overview of what is coming up over the next few years.

The meeting is open to members and their guests and the general public and is free of charge. Tea and coffee will be available after the meeting.

Please note that there is limited parking at the Orangery so please give priority to blue badge holders; if you can park offsite, it would be appreciated. There are a number of car parks in the area – including some council-run surface level car parks in Westgate and Northgate that are free after 6 pm. Please ensure you have entered a free car park though – as some car parks are subject to 24-hour parking fees!
