Special Screening of Kes - Wakefield Theatre Royal

In association with Theatre Royal Wakefield, we are delighted to invite you to a special screening of the film Kes to be shown as part of a wider research project being conducted into Cultural Memory and Cinema-going in the 1960s by researchers from University College London.

The film starts at 7.00 pm and tickets can be booked through Theatre Royal Wakefield at £6 or £4 for concessions.

What was it like to go to the cinema in the 1960s? Were you there? Do you remember the stars, the auditoriums and the films? Come along to Theatre Royal Wakefield for a night of cinema memories and a special screening of the Ken Loach film, Kes.

This adaptation of Barnsley-born author Barry Hines' book, A Kestrel for a Knave, tells the story a boy and his friendship with his pet falcon. It is one of the most well regarded films of the 1960s and won two British Academy Film Awards.

Researchers from University College London will be introducing the film and talking about the project that they are running on memories of cinema-going in 1960s Britain. The audience will have the chance to share their memories and to make an important contribution to the research.
