Wakefield Civic Society will unveil its latest blue plaque at the Theatre Royal Wakefield at lunchtime on Wednesday, 4th September. The plaque will celebrate the theatre's contribution to the cultural life of the city over many years and will be unveiled by Trevor Mitchell, Regional Director for Planning and Development at English Heritage.
Designed by the internationally known British Victorian theatre architect Frank Matcham, the theatre is thought to be the smallest remaining Matcham theatre in the country and the only one remaining in Yorkshire.
The Grade II* listed building occupies a prominent site on the corner of Westgate and Drury Lane, a site on which there has been a theatre since 1776.
Please note that this event is by invitation only. However, there are some places available for non-members. If you would like to attend and have not received an invitation, please contact us (below)with your email address and an invitation will be emailed to you subject to there being spare places remaining.
