Saturday, 22nd June is Civic Day - the day when civic societies across the country organise events to promote an interest in the work they do and the places they value.
Here at Wakefield Civic Society, we want to tell you something about the work of our Society and how we have helped to shape the places we love in the city centre!
Meeting at our office at 19 King Street, Wakefield, WF1 2SQ, at 1.30 pm, we will begin with a short overview talk based on the Society's photograph display showing how the city has developed. At around 2.00 pm, we will then start to walk around the north-western edge of the city centre - roughly between Northgate and Westgate - to explore the diverse architectural styles and to learn something about the city's built history. The walk will conclude at approximately 4.00 pm.
This event is free (donations always welcome!) and open to members and non-members. To book a place, please email us - you can find details of how to do this under the 'Contact' button at the top right of the screen. We will then email you confirmation of your booking.
Please note that, although the walk will be at a gentle pace, there are few places to sit once we leave the office. It is recommended that people wear flat shoes and bring a bottle of water, especially if it is a hot day.
