Architecture 1B has become the latest company to join the Society as a corporate member.
Having recently relocated to in Wakefield at Victoria Chambers, 40 Wood Street, director Darren Bailey contacted the Society to see how he could help the Society with its work. After a discussion with the Society's president, Kevin Trickett, at the company's offices in Wood Street, Darren agreed to take out a corporate bronze membership of the Society.
Kevin Trickett said that he was extremely pleased to hear from Darren adding "The Society was established in 1964 and is run by volunteers. We rely on membership subscriptions and donations for the majority of our funding and it's really good when local businesses step forward to help us. Their financial support is invaluable but, more than that, it shows that local business people understand the importance of what we are doing to help make Wakefield a great place in which to live, work, or run a business".
Darren Bailey gave his reasons for joining the Society "Having recently relocated my company to Wakefield, I am committed to helping the city to develop and joining Wakefield Civic Society was an excellent way of putting something back into the local community. The Society has a really impressive record of influencing the way the city centre has been developed over the years and of promoting an interest in the built environment. It helps to draw public attention to some very important issues while also celebrating the best of Wakefield’s architectural heritage as well as new design.
"As a business owner in the city, I feel that it is important that the Society’s work continues and I am delighted to be able to support them through taking out corporate membership. Not only that, I was so impressed by what the Society does for Wakefield that I decided I would like to offer hands-on help by joining the Society’s committee!”
Architecture 1B is just the latest in an increasing number of local businesses that have pledged to help the Society. Kevin Trickett added "There is no other organisation in Wakefield that does what we do - from reviewing planning applications to putting up blue plaques and offering guided walks, so it is very satisfying when business people show their appreciation for what we are doing by joining us. To get Darren to join the committee was an added bonus! We now have three of our corporate members represented on the committee which helps to show our commitment to supporting local enterprise".
