The Angel of Passchendaele film screening

Join us for another chance to see The Angel of Passchendaele - a film about Nellie Spindler, the nurse from Wakefield who was killed at the Battle of Passchendaele during World War I. Tickets cost just £5 per person.

Back in July, we screened two films at the Theatre Royal Wakefield: Futility and a new educational film, The Angel of Passchendaele, as part of a special premiere evening which also included a presentation and some spoken word performances by pupils from Wakefield Girls' High School.

Approximately 200 people attended but there was tough competition from a certain World Cup match playing the same evening. We have therefore arranged a repeat screening of the two films.

Wakefield Civic Society to welcome civic societies from across the region.

On Saturday, 6th October, Wakefield Civic Society will welcome representatives from civic societies across the region when it hosts the autumn meeting of the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies (YHACS). YHACS meetings are held quarterly in different towns and cities and provide a networking opportunity for members from nearly 40 societies in Yorkshire and Humber.

You may have heard about the Forgotten Women of Wakefield Project as it has received a lot of press coverage in recent weeks. Come to our talk on 20th September at 7.30pm at Wakefield Town Hall to learn all about the background to the project as Sarah Leah Cobham, CEO of Dream Time Creative, explains what the project was set up to achieve and reveals some of the discoveries being made about the women who helped to fashion Wakefield's social and political life.
