No 22. Archbishop John Potter
Wakefield can boast two archbishops, one of Canterbury and the other of York, as her sons. The second is the current Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend Dr David Hope. The earlier one was Archbishop John Potter (1674-1747) who succeeded to the see of Canterbury in 1737. He lived here as a boy above his father’s drapers shop.
